Contract Pharmacal Corp. is introducing its mass-market hemp supplement Uleva. The product line contains six different blended formulas that combine hemp with other herbal and nutritive ingredients.
Among the products is Uleva Fuel, which combines green tea extract with full-spectrum hemp extract to provide a natural energy boost. The line also includes Uleva Sleep, which blends melatonin with full-spectrum hemp extract to help consumers get to sleep. Other members of the Uleva line are Uleva Flex (glucosamine and chondroitin plus full-spectrum hemp), Uleva Digest (ginger and full-spectrum hemp), Uleva Relax (ashwagandha and full-spectrum hemp) and Uleva Relieve (turmeric and full-spectrum hemp).
CPC CEO Matt Wolf noted that while the Food and Drug Administration has prohibited products containing CBD products to market, Uleva uses full-spectrum hemp extract and makes no disease claims, nor does it mention CBD in any of its labels or marketing — because Uleva is not a CBD product.
“The hemp supplement category is by far the largest opportunity I’ve seen in my 25 years in the nutraceutical industry. However, there is an understandable hesitation on the part of retailers to merchandise Full Spectrum Hemp supplements because of the nuance in FDA regulatory guidance,” Wolf said. “Full spectrum extracts do not violate the exclusionary clause. This is because they contain the full array of naturally occurring nutrients at their naturally occurring concentrations without isolation or fortification of any one component. Our nutraceutical consumers will appreciate that CBD is one important and naturally occurring component of full spectrum hemp, which contains over 100 phytocannabinoids.”
CPC said that with the recent enactment of the 2018 Farm Bill, it sees itself playing a role in the continued development of the hemp industry.
